Cake.

I ended up having "cold days" both yesterday and today. I didn't get any angry calls wondering why I wasn't at school :)  I also checked a few things off of my list and then had some much needed baking time.

Dan and I were both in the mood for chocolate cake last night, so today I made one. I topped this one with a coconut cream cheese frosting.  Mmmmmm

Making this cake reminded me of one I made in college. Dan and I went to different colleges and, especially during our freshman/sophomore years, would only see each other every couple of weekends. Thanks to my dad, I've liked to bake since I was old enough to dump a cup of flour into a bowl and hold a spoon. One weekend when Dan was coming to visit, I decided to make a delicious cake as a treat for us and my roommates. I made a rich chocolate cake with a coconut filling/frosting and put some pecans around the top to make it look fancy. I thought I had invented a super delicious cake. I was so excited to show Dan the cake I invented and when he got to my apartment he was so excited to see the german chocolate cake I made! I looked it up and found out what I thought was my great flavor combination invention was already a well known type of cake! Haha!

Other than baking and crossing off a few things on my list, the dogs and I had a lazy day.

I love when Maggie rests her paws on the arm rest. I think it's adorable and hilarious :)

Oh and one more thing: I undecorated today- the stockings are down, the festive sign is down, and the decorations are off the tree. Little Nella has never been around a Christmas tree, and being the very excitable, fearless puppy she is, we thought she would for sure knock over our Christmas tree. But she stayed away from it. Until today. I think once Nella saw me touching it, she figured it was okay for her to touch it too. It became her new favorite toy. She had so much fun ripping off pine needles and sprinkling them all over our living room carpet. She would pick up small clusters of them, throw them in the air, then pounce on them. She looked like a cat. When she got tired of her cat activities, she munched on them. What a weird dog. I vacuumed three times today. I would vacuum, go into another room to do something else, and come back a few minutes later to find pine needles all over the carpet again. I decided not to vacuum again until Dan could take the tree out of the house. Until then, this is what we have. It makes me laugh.

It looks like we have a space capsule or something in our living room. I smile every time I glance at it.

Back to school tomorrow! As much as I love vacation (and oh was it was lovely, especially those bonus days), I miss my kids :)
